Parkway

Despite some threatening clouds in our area, we decided to take the convertible up through Pisgah National Forest and onto the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The roads were a bit crowded, as one might expect for a holiday weekend, but the weather held off and we had a nice drive.

I battled the crowds at Looking Glass Falls to get the perfect photograph.  I took the tripod down the trail with me so I could get that cliche’ silky water effect by using a small aperture and slow shutter speed.  What I got with those settings just looked blurred, even with the tripod.  However, the sharp shots turned out great, especially when color-enhanced.  Note the rainbow…

We continued on up to the Parkway and stopped at the picnic area just beyond the Pisgah Inn for dinner.  An old rusty grill proved an interesting subject for some macro photography…

At Asheville, we decided to keep driving northward on the Parkway until we got tired.  We made it as far as Craggy Gardens, then headed back.
