SCIWAY South Carolina s Front Door

Ten years or so ago I was active doing workshops and presentations for SCETV and various technology conferences. One of the resources I cited consistently was SCIWAY.net. The South Carolina Information Highway (SCIWAY, pronounced “sky-way”) has been a fantastic clearinghouse of information about the state. Later I became involved with the site’s South Carolina Picture Project, which serves not only as a collection of images from around the state, but is an encyclopedia South Carolina locales. I began contributing to the project and met the site’s managers – Tara, Robin, and Brandon. It continues to be an critical resource as I plan my photo expeditions, paddling trips, and other adventures.

Now, however, we are in danger of losing this resource. SCIWAY has lost a major source of funding. Without a new source of revenue, the site will not longer be updated. Funds exist to keep the site online, but there will be no new information added.

The folks at SCIWAY are working to make sure that the site remains a useful, updated resource for the state. They have set up a GoFundMe page to seek additional funding until they can find a more permanent revenue source. I urge you to go check it out, and consider making a donation. Even a little bit will help.

Let’s work to keep this valuable resource active so that it can continue to provide updated information about our state.
